Langues : Français (fre) Mots-clés : Agronomie TA Zoo of Durrell Index. décimale : TFE Technologie animalière TFE Technologie animalière Résumé : This is first edition of the Best Practice Guidelines for the pink pigeon, mainly based on the husbandry experiences of Jersey and on writings of talented authors.
The pink pigeon, one of Durrell's iconic species, is a true success story in the world of conservation. Saved from a certain extinction, the rescue and survival of this species are the result of the will and the tireless work of many heroes of this world. However, the work is far from over, obstacles still oppose the sustainability of the species in Mauritius. The best contribution that institutions can make is to take the greatest care of the captive population in the long run, to bring the genetic diversity necessary for the viability of the endemic population. It is for this purpose that these guidelines were written, if any questions remain, feel free to contact the Durrell’s staff, it will be a pleasure to answer you.
This species has been in aviculture since 1977 and the basis of the current EEP captive population is derived from a small number of wild-caught founders.
Some aspects of these guidelines have been taken or modified from Gillian R. Stewart “Pink pigeon Management Guidelines: A personal view”, written in 1999.
These guidelines represent only a draft of what the guidelines should be, they will be upgraded by the future.Note de contenu : Table of contents
