Effectiveness of a Physical Activity Intervention for Head Start Preschoolers / Laura L. BELLOWS in American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol. 67/1 (janvier-février 2013)
[article]
Titre : Effectiveness of a Physical Activity Intervention for Head Start Preschoolers : a Randomized Intervention Study Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Laura L. BELLOWS ; et al. ; Anderson, Jennifer ; Patricia L. DAVIES Année de publication : 2013 Article en page(s) : p. 28-36 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Enfant Motricité Activité physique Résumé : OBJECTIVES. The level of children’s motor skill proficiency may be an important determinant of their physical activity behaviors. This study assessed the efficacy of an intervention on gross motor skill performance, physical activity, and weight status of preschoolers.
METHOD. The Food Friends: Get Movin’ With Mighty Moves® program was conducted in four Head Start centers. Measurements included the Peabody Developmental Motor Scales, pedometer counts, and body mass index (BMI) z scores.
RESULTS. The intervention led to significant changes in gross motor skills in the treatment group (n = 98) compared with the control group (n = 103) and was a strong predictor of overall gross motor performance (gross motor quotient), locomotor, stability, and object manipulation skills. No intervention effect was found for physical activity levels or weight status.
CONCLUSION. The intervention dose was adequate for enhancing gross motor skill performance but not for increasing physical activity levels or reducing BMI.Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=14067

Exclu du prêtEffectiveness of therapy ball chairs on classroom participation in children with autism spectrum disorders / Nancy BAGATELL in American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol. 64/6 (novembre-décembre 2010)
[article]
Titre : Effectiveness of therapy ball chairs on classroom participation in children with autism spectrum disorders Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Nancy BAGATELL ; Gina MIRIGLIANI ; Chrissa PATTERSON ; et al. Année de publication : 2010 Article en page(s) : p. 895-903 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Autisme Enseignement Posture Résumé : A single-subject design was used to assess the effectiveness of therapy ball chairs on classroom participation in 6 boys with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The sensory processing pattern of each participant was assessed using the Sensory Processing Measure. Data on in-seat behavior and engagement were collected using digital video recordings during Circle Time. During baseline, participants sat on chairs. During intervention, participants sat on therapy ball chairs. Social validity was assessed by means of a questionnaire completed by the teacher. Each child demonstrated a unique response. The ball chair appeared to have a positive effect on in-seat behavior for the child who had the most extreme vestibular–proprioceptive-seeking behaviors. Children with poor postural stability were less engaged when sitting on the therapy ball chair. The results illuminate the complex nature of children with ASD and the importance of using sound clinical reasoning skills when recommending sensory strategies for the classroom. Titre : Effects of constraint-induced therapy combined with eye patching on functional outcomes and movement kinematics in poststroke neglect Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ching-Yi WU ; et al. ; Yu-Ting CHEN ; Tien-Ni WANG Année de publication : 2013 Article en page(s) : p. 236-245 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Thérapie par contrainte induite Oeil Perception Résumé : OBJECTIVE. We investigated the effect of constraint-induced therapy (CIT) plus eye patching (EP), CIT alone, and conventional treatment on functional performance, eye movement, and trunk–arm kinematics in stroke patients with neglect syndrome.
METHOD. Twenty-four participants were recruited and randomly allocated to three intervention groups. All participants received intervention 2 hr/day, 5 days/wk, for 3 wk. Outcome measures included the Catherine Bergego Scale, eye movement, and trunk–arm kinematic analysis.
RESULTS. The CIT + EP and CIT groups demonstrated larger improvements in functional performance than the control group. The CIT group showed better performance with left fixation points than the CIT+EP group and shorter reaction time than the control group. The CIT + EP group improved more in preplanned control and leftward trunk shift than the other two groups.
CONCLUSION. CIT + EP and CIT were more effective interventions than conventional treatment of patients with neglect syndrome in daily functional performance.Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=14086

Exclu du prêtEffects of daytime ingestion of melatonin on heart rate response during prolonged exercise / Amine SOUISSI in Science & motricité, 115 (janvier 2022)
