Enfants:Enfants -- Protection, assistance, etc.Résumé : "A major part of the work of British social workers in children's departments is interacting with an IT system known as the Integrated Children's System (ICS) that implements both record-keeping and reporting functions. After a short time in operation, the system is now regarded as deficient and, disturbingly, there is a body of evidence to suggest that the impact of the implementation has all too often been antithetical to core social work values and ambitions. This article describes the mistakes made in developing a specific computer system for childcare." Permalink : http://cdocs.helha.be/pmblln/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=17048

Ethique # Risque # Travail socialMots-clés : Australie Résumé : "The progressive politics of social work is threatened as social workers confront the widening gulf between professional ideals and the realities of their practice within the morally conservative context of neo-liberal risk society. Identifying how to subvert the despondency and despair that such a climate evokes, and being able to connect to an increased sense of professional agency, is urgently needed. This paper provides insight into how this can be achieved by considering how social workers, who participated in an Australian study, determined a moral response that was ‘other’-focused when faced with the dilemma of whether to respond to their clients' or their own sense of being ‘at risk’ within their respective practice contexts." These evolving fields of knowledge present challenges to social work as they seek to reshape traditional accounts of children and integrate revised knowledge to inform practice and policy issues. The article begins by mapping the social studies of childhood and then considers the models of childhood that underpin professional knowledge and practice. The next section examines the ways in which aspects of these paradigms have entered policy and practice. This article considers how childhood studies might contribute to social work through the development of a more integrated and distinctive model of professional practice." We value the contribution of previous reflections on whether practitioner research has or ought to have special methods and on the particular evidence or knowledge yielded by practitioner research projects. However, we are concerned to elucidate the meaning of practitioner research as it is undertaken by social work professionals, through an exploration of how social workers navigate the deceptive waters of their research process and experience. Drawing on an interactionist analysis of diverse data from these two cohorts, we aim to depict how engaging in such practices shapes and is shaped by the career of their professional minds and identities." The study had three elements: a scoping study, an epidemiological survey of infected and affected children, and young people and interviews with forty-eight informants (practitioners, parents and carers, and infected and affected children and young people). The study indicates that a number of significant changes have taken place since earlier research on infected and affected children and young people in Scotland. Most critically, it is argued that, at the same time as more people than ever are HIV-positive and a new, younger generation of children is living with HIV, so policy directives in HIV and children's services may make the needs of these children invisible. The paper ends by drawing out conclusions for policy and practice." Permalink : http://cdocs.helha.be/pmblln/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=17053
