Evidence-based interventions involving occupational therapists are needed in re-ablement for older community-living people: A systematic review / Cecilia Pettersson in The British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol.80 Issue 5 (May 2017)
[article]
Titre : Evidence-based interventions involving occupational therapists are needed in re-ablement for older community-living people: A systematic review Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Cecilia Pettersson ; Susanne Iwarsson Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p. 273-285 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : ergothérapie personne âgée activité soins à domicile Résumé : Introduction
Re-ablement services are in a period of strong development, but the terms and definitions used remain unclear, and the scientific evidence is still weak. The aim of this systematic review was to obtain an overview of the scientific literature in this evolving research area, and investigate whether there is scientific evidence for positive effects of re-ablement services for older community-living people.
Method
The systematic literature search was conducted in the databases CINAHL, PubMed and Svemed+(Swemed) and covered the years 2000–2014. Owing to the heterogeneity in the included studies, a narrative synthesis was performed.
Results
Eight original publications were found eligible and included in the systematic review. When addressed, terms and definitions varied among the papers. Effects such as less use of home care, higher likelihood to live at home, improved activities of daily living (ADL) skills, quality of life and physical health, increased physical activity and lower costs compared to conventional home care were reported.
Conclusion
More high-quality research is needed to strengthen the evidence-base regarding re-ablement services. The specific roles of various professional and staff groups are often insufficiently described, as are the interventions as such, and there is a lack of attention to person-centered aspects such as the meaningfulness of the specific activities.Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=50111

Exclu du prêtLeisure activities and mobility device use among very old people in Latvia and in Sweden / Marianne Kylberg in The British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol.80 Issue 4 (April 2017)
[article]
Titre : Leisure activities and mobility device use among very old people in Latvia and in Sweden Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Marianne Kylberg ; Charlotte Löfqvist ; Vibeke Horstmann ; Susanne Iwarsson Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p. 250-258 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : participation personne âgée assistance technologique Suède:Lettonie Résumé : Introduction
Opportunities for leisure activities and physical mobility are important for the ageing population. Therefore, we aim to describe leisure activities outside the home among very old (over 80 years of age) users and non-users of mobility devices in two European countries.
Method
Survey data on mobility device use, self-rated physical mobility and leisure activities outside the home were utilised for a Latvian (n = 225) and Swedish (n = 314) sample. Differences in type and number of leisure activities were studied between the countries and for four groups of participants according to use/non-use of and level of physical mobility.
Results
Significant differences in type and number of leisure activities were seen between the national samples and among the participant groups. In general, each participant group in the Swedish sample reported more leisure activities than did those in the Latvian sample. Non-users with good physical mobility reported significantly more leisure activities than all other participant groups.
Conclusion
There are differences between the two national contexts in the type and number of leisure activities reported. To support very old people’s participation in outdoor leisure activities, we need more knowledge as to how physical, institutional and sociocultural environments affect very old people’s opportunities to engage in and perform such activities.Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=48410

Exclu du prêtPsychometric properties of the NOMO 1.0 tested among adult powered-mobility users / Terje Sund in Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy, 84(1) (février 2017)
[article]
But.

Exclu du prêtSpecial issue: The ageing population – challenges and opportunities (I) / Susanne Iwarsson in The British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol.81 Issue 8 (Août 2018)
[article]
Titre : Special issue: The ageing population – challenges and opportunities (I) Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Susanne Iwarsson Année de publication : 2018 Article en page(s) : p. 425-426 Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : This is the first of a two-part special issue addressing the ageing population and the opportunities and challenges for occupational therapy research and practice. Traditionally, and as has been well developed in many countries around the world, occupational therapy targeting older people delivers qualified programmes for preventive home visits, community-based rehabilitation, fall prevention, lifestyle redesign, assistive technology provision, and so forth. Research findings are increasingly transferred to practice contexts and serve to strengthen the quality of occupational therapy practices (Iwarsson, 2013). With population ageing already identified as a grand challenge at the international policy level a decade ago (European Commission, 2009), this special issue is timely and not only serves to highlight the potential of occupational therapy to contribute to much-required knowledge development, but also identifies demands facing our profession and discipline. Since there were more accepted contributions than it was possible to include in the special issue itself (others will be published in regular issues of the journal), I decided to focus in this second part of the special issue on research relating to people ageing with different types and severities of cognitive decline. Five papers explicitly relate to older people with some form of cognitive decline, ranging from memory problems or mild cognitive impairment to dementia; interestingly, several of them include digital technology use, making this somewhat of a subsidiary theme for this collection.
