Titre : Effect of Home Modification Interventions on the Participation of Community-Dwelling Adults With Health Conditions: A Systematic Review. Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Susan Stark, Auteur ; Marian Keglovits, Auteur ; Marian Arbesman, Auteur Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : pp.1-11 Langues : Américain (ame) Mots-clés : Accessibilité architecturale ergothérapie Résumé : OBJECTIVE. This systematic review investigated the role of home modification interventions to improve participation outcomes for community-living adults and older adults. METHOD. Thirty-six articles met the inclusion criteria. The majority of the studies investigated older adult populations and used occupational therapists as interventionists. RESULTS. Strong evidence was found for home modification interventions to improve function for people with a variety of health conditions and for both single and multicomponent interventions that included home modifications to reduce the rate and risk of falls among older adults. Moderate evidence was found for improved caregiving for people with dementia. CONCLUSION. Comprehensive, higher intensity interventions demonstrated greater efficacy to improve occupational performance. Emerging evidence was also found for the role of occupational therapy in providing effective home modification interventions. Implications for occupational therapy practice, education, and research are discussed. Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=49267

Exclu du prêtEffect of occupation- and activity-based interventions on instrumental activities of daily living performance among community-dwelling older adults / Elsa ORELLANO in American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol. 66/3 (mai-juin 2012)

Titre : Effect of occupation- and activity-based interventions on instrumental activities of daily living performance among community-dwelling older adults : a systematic review Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Elsa ORELLANO ; Marian Arbesman ; Wanda I. COLON Année de publication : 2012 Article en page(s) : p. 292-300 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Activités vie quotidienne Personne âgée Résumé : This systematic review examines the effectiveness of occupation- and activity-based interventions on community-dwelling older adults’ performance of instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). It was conducted as part of the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Evidence-Based Practice Project. Forty studies met the inclusion criteria and were critically appraised and synthesized. Within occupation-based and client-centered interventions, the evidence that multicomponent interventions improve and maintain IADL performance in community-dwelling older adults is strong. The results also indicate that client-centered, occupation-based interventions can be effective in improving and maintaining IADL performance. The evidence is moderate for functional task exercise programs and limited for simulated IADL interventions to improve IADL performance. In the area of performance skills, the evidence related to physical activity and cognitive skills training is mixed, and the evidence that vision rehabilitation interventions improve IADL performance in older adults with low vision is moderate. Implications for practice, education, and research are also discussed. Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=14060

Exclu du prêtEffectiveness of Cognitive and Occupation-Based Interventions for Children With Challenges in Sensory Processing and Integration: A Systematic Review. / Beth PFEIFFER in American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol. 72/1 (January/February 2018)

Titre : Effectiveness of Cognitive and Occupation-Based Interventions for Children With Challenges in Sensory Processing and Integration: A Systematic Review. Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Beth PFEIFFER, Auteur ; Gloria J. Frolek clark, Auteur ; Marian Arbesman, Auteur Année de publication : 2018 Article en page(s) : pp.1-9 Langues : Américain (ame) Mots-clés : Troubles sensitifs Pédiatrie ergothérapie Thérapie cognitive Résumé : This systematic review examines the evidence for the effectiveness of cognitive and occupation-based interventions to improve self-regulation in children and youth who have challenges in processing and integrating sensory information. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guided the methodology. Five studies identified through a comprehensive database search met the inclusion criteria and were separated into categories of cognitive and occupation-based interventions. Articles that did not specifically measure sensory integration (SI) or processing challenges were omitted. Synthesis of the articles suggests that self-regulation (e.g., sensory processing, emotional regulation, executive functioning, social function) improved with cognitive and occupation-based interventions. Because the number of studies that measured sensory processing or SI challenges was limited, researchers are encouraged to include these measures in future research to understand the impact of a broader range of cognitive and occupation-based interventions. Exclu du prêtEffectiveness of Interventions for Weight Loss for People With Serious Mental Illness: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis / Catana Brown in American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol. 72/5 (Septembre-Octobre 2018)

Titre : Effectiveness of Interventions for Weight Loss for People With Serious Mental Illness: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Catana Brown ; Lydia C. Geiszler ; Kelsie J. Lewis ; Marian Arbesman Année de publication : 2018 Article en page(s) : p. 7205190030p1-7205190030p9 Note générale : doi.org/10.5014/ajot.2018.033415 Langues : Anglais (eng) Résumé : OBJECTIVE. We examined the effectiveness of weight loss interventions in community-based settings for people with serious mental illness (SMI).
METHOD. Four databases were searched for randomized controlled trials published in 2008 or later that met the criteria for the research question and used weight loss as an outcome measure. Data were extracted, and weight loss was analyzed using a meta-analysis. Similarities and differences in interventions were analyzed qualitatively.
RESULTS. Seventeen studies and a total of 1,874 participants with various diagnoses of SMI were included in the meta-analysis. The various lifestyle-focused interventions had a significant effect on weight loss with an overall effect size of −0.308 (p < .001).
CONCLUSION. Community-based interventions for people with SMI are effective for weight loss. Occupational therapists can be involved in the provision of weight loss interventions and in the development and study of intervention components that are most effective.Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=83948

Exclu du prêtEfficacy of Occupational Therapy Using Ayres Sensory Integration®: A Systematic Review. / Roseann C. SCHAAF in American Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol. 72/1 (January/February 2018)
[article]
Titre : Efficacy of Occupational Therapy Using Ayres Sensory Integration®: A Systematic Review. Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Roseann C. SCHAAF, Auteur ; Rachel L Dumont, Auteur ; Marian Arbesman, Auteur Année de publication : 2018 Article en page(s) : pp.1-10 Langues : Américain (ame) Mots-clés : Trouble autistique ergothérapie pédiatrie Troubles sensitifs Résumé : This systematic review addresses the question "What is the efficacy of occupational therapy using Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) to support functioning and participation as defined by the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health for persons with challenges in processing and integrating sensory information that interfere with everyday life participation?" Three randomized controlled trials, 1 retroactive analysis, and 1 single-subject ABA design published from 2007 to 2015, all of which happened to study children with autism, met inclusion criteria. The evidence is strong that ASI intervention demonstrates positive outcomes for improving individually generated goals of functioning and participation as measured by Goal Attainment Scaling for children with autism. Moderate evidence supported improvements in impairment-level outcomes of improvement in autistic behaviors and skills-based outcomes of reduction in caregiver assistance with self-care activities. Child outcomes in play, sensory--motor, and language skills and reduced caregiver assistance with social skills had emerging but insufficient evidence.
