Religions # SpiritualitéMots-clés : Spiritualité Religion Besoins Travail social Résumé : "This paper examines the development of social work practice in spiritual care and the attitudes towards spirituality and religion demonstrated by social workers in the UK,through reflection on key findings from two empirical studies conducted ten years apart.Fieldwork for the first study, conducted by the author, was undertaken from 1990 to 1992 and was the first of its kind to examine the treatment of spirituality in social work practice in the UK.The second study reported in 2004.Comparison of the findings from these two studies showed that the increased sympathy towards "spiritual practice" is not as great in social work as is demonstrated amongst other human services professions, and that there is continuing inhibition and resistance in the UK in social work education in particular. The paper argues that much of the problem for practitioners, even where they identify spiritual need as an issue, lies in the inadequate theorizing and lack of practice guidance developed in the context of UK social work.It concludes by discussing the particular context of mainstream social work practice in the UK and examines how assessment of spiritual need and siritual interventions might connect with social work's core business." Choix (psychologie):Prise de décisionRésumé : "This article is the first to report on a study that tracked all the care proceedings initiated by an English local authority over a one-year period, obtaining factual information and opinions from the social workers involved in the case through the use of guided interviews. The main objective of the researchers was to contribute to understanding of ways in which children are kept waiting in difficult and insecure situations for decisions to be made about their long-term future. This article focuses in particular on the problem of delays that occur prior to a case coming into the court arena. The article offers evidence that current initiatives to reduce court delay may have the unintended result of increasing pre-court delay." Criminalité # Criminologie # Education # ÉtudiantsRésumé : "In light of the Bichard Inquiry, this paper considers the vetting practices that apply in relation to those students with criminal convictions who apply to undertake social work education in England or Wales. The paper is organized primarily around the lessons that can be learnt from two case studies, and descriptions of how a range of social work programmes in England and Wales assess individuals with criminal convictions. It explores some of the reasons why the assessment of individuals with previous criminal convictions is important, some of the issues that might arise in relation to how it is currently carried out and what might constitute best practice in this area."
