Dimensions of personal meaning from engagement in occupations: A metasynthesis / Anne Roberts in Canadian Journal of Occupational Therapy, 85(5) (Décembre 2018)
[article]
But.
Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=84229

Exclu du prêtFactors affecting sustained engagement in walking for health: A focus group study / Rosi Raine in The British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol.80 Issue 3 (March 2017)
[article]
Titre : Factors affecting sustained engagement in walking for health: A focus group study Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Rosi Raine ; Anne Roberts ; Lynne Callaghan ; [et al...] Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p. 183-190 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : marche prévention promotion de la santé activité physique Résumé : Introduction
Health guidance recommends walking as a means to achieve advised levels of physical activity. The aims of the research were to consider the experience of the occupation of walking in relation to health and wellbeing, factors that lead to sustained engagement in walking and factors influencing the sustainable provision of walking groups, to inform practice.
Method
This phenomenological study considered the experience of eight walking group members and six walk leaders. Data were gathered using three focus groups. Transcriptions were thematically analysed.
Findings
Participants perceived that the experience of walking groups included improved feelings of wellbeing, and meaning derived from social support and connection with nature. Participants reported changes that improved the health of walkers and their families. Factors considered to influence sustained engagement in walking included appropriate challenge and variety, woodland developments, accommodation of routine, use of local green space and consideration of barriers. Factors considered to influence the sustainable provision of walking groups included facilitation style, health champions, marketing approaches and clarity and collaboration with primary care referrers.
Conclusion
Walking groups can be used to support individuals to engage in health-promoting occupations. An occupational perspective can usefully inform practice.Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=48272

Exclu du prêtThe contribution of allotment gardening to health and wellbeing: A systematic review of the literature / Chris Genter in The British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Volume 78 Numéro 10 (Octobre 2015)
[article]
Titre : The contribution of allotment gardening to health and wellbeing: A systematic review of the literature Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Chris Genter, Auteur ; Anne Roberts, Auteur ; Janet Richardson, Auteur Année de publication : 2015 Article en page(s) : p.593-605 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : Allotment gardening health and wellbeing systematic review Résumé : Introduction Allotment gardening is a popular pastime which anecdotally contributes to health and wellbeing, although the extent of supportive research evidence is unclear. This systematic review investigates the question: Does allotment gardening contribute to health and wellbeing?
Method A systematic search was conducted, including the terms ‘allotment’, ‘garden’, ‘health’ and ‘wellbeing’. Abstracts of identified papers were compared with inclusion criteria, and 10 papers were finally selected. Critical appraisal and data extraction were conducted simultaneously. Qualitative research papers predominated and were analysed thematically. Resultant themes were compared and integrated with the findings of quantitative research papers.
Findings Thematic analysis of the qualitative and quantitative papers’ findings revealed five distinct health and wellbeing themes. Allotment gardening provides a stress-relieving refuge, contributes to a healthier lifestyle, creates social opportunities, provides valued contact with nature, and enables self-development.
Conclusion This review suggests that allotment gardening does indeed impact health and wellbeing. It is therefore recommended as occupational therapy for people with health problems, and as a health promoting occupation for the general population. Research particularly focused on the impact of group and therapeutic allotment gardening, so further investigations are recommended to explore the health promoting influences of everyday allotment gardening for individuals.En ligne : http://bjo.sagepub.com/content/78/10/593.abstract Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=40840

Exclu du prêtThe value of cycling as a meaningful and therapeutic occupation / Mike Feighan in The British Journal of Occupational Therapy, Vol.80 Issue 5 (May 2017)
[article]
Titre : The value of cycling as a meaningful and therapeutic occupation Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Mike Feighan ; Anne Roberts Année de publication : 2017 Article en page(s) : p. 319-326 Langues : Anglais (eng) Mots-clés : vélo activité signifiante santé et bien-être Résumé : Introduction
Occupational therapists believe that meaningful occupations are linked to an individual’s health and wellbeing, and there is a growing literature exploring the personal meaning of specific occupations. However, few of these studies have focused on the personal meaning of active sporting occupations and their therapeutic benefits. This study aimed to explore the personal meanings attributed to the occupation of cycling, with a view to providing occupational therapists and others with an understanding of its therapeutic potential.
Method
Following approval by an ethics committee, seven men and women who cycled regularly took part in semi-structured interviews. These interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed. Interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to interpret the data.
Findings
The findings describe how and why cycling was meaningful. Cycling altered their mind-set and their emotions, contributed towards their identity and connected them to others. These themes concur with the findings of other studies and provide a rationale for their use therapeutically.
Conclusion
This study contributes to what is known about the value people derive from cycling, and its impact on their health and wellbeing. Occupational therapists can use this information for individual and group therapy as well as for guidance on the health and wellbeing of communities.Permalink : ./index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=50116
