Introduction : Les perceptions par les amputés de leur corps ont fait l'objet de multiples descriptions souvent désordonnées. L'objectif est d'établir une classification synthétique. Méthode : Revue à partir d'études prospectives de 75 amputés recrutés de façon consécutive. Analyse à partir de déclarations libres puis semi-directives. Résultats : Selon la perception ou non du membre amputé, selon l'acuité, la forme, la posture, le mouvement, le caractère réminiscent du membre amputé perçu, il est possible de distinguer des membres fantômes normaux, déformés ou commémoratifs (de rappel), des illusions de normalité corporelle, des perceptions de l'état réel. Discussion : Quel que soit le modèle (neuromatrice) sur lequel repose la construction de l'image corporelle, les représentations correspondant aux perceptions identifiées utilisent différents référentiels (innés, identitaires, autobiographiques) ainsi que les informations instantanées, d'origine périphérique, traitées par des structures cérébrales réorganisées. À chaque type de perception correspond une modalité de représentation particulière. Conclusion : Cette approche, compatible avec les données de la littérature, permet de mieux comprendre les différences entre améliques et amputés tardifs ainsi que les comportements à l'égard de l'appareillage prothétique.
