Citizenship in question: a minority perspective on Palestine / Julia Droeber in Pensée plurielle, 47 (2018)
[article]
Démocratie # NationalismeRésumé : "La citoyenneté en question : la Palestine au prisme de ses minoritésIn this contribution I investigate the practice of citizenship in different national contexts with particular focus on Palestine. I do this from a minority perspective because, in the case of minorities, the philosophy and practice of citizenship undergoes its litmus test. I argue that the practice of true citizenship must be inclusive and democratic, prerequisites that continue to be in their infancy in Palestine (and elsewhere). And while the idea of citizens’ rights is alive and well in most places of the world, including Palestine, the concept of citizens’ duties is largely underdeveloped. Religious minorities have an active role to play in the future development of citizenship practices and philosophies." Éducation religieuse # Islamisme # Réfugiés :Réfugiés -- Allemagne # Religions:Religions -- RelationsRésumé : "This contribution examines two related issues: why religion has resurfaced in the citizenship debate in Germany? Is there a place for Islam and Muslims in this citizenship regime? I show that religious affiliation has gradually become disconnected from citizenship. However, with the arrival of large numbers of Muslim refugees in Germany, this link between religious affiliation and citizenship has been questioned again, particularly in popular discourse. The official answer to the question about Islam/Muslims belonging to Germany and German citizenship has been mainly “Yes”, except for some right-wing politicians. This “yes” is particularly reflected in the establishment of Islamic Religious Education as a regular subject in state schools."
