Santé mentale # Théorie de la connaissanceMots-clés : Santé mentale Connaissance Résumé : "As the integration of health and social care services progresses in the mental health sector, there is concern that mental health social workers are disadvantaged, relative to health professionals, because they cannot identify the knowledge base for their practice. This paper argues that this concern is partly the product of assuming that the knowledge base has to be premised upon randomized controlled trials. Instead, it proposes a non-hierarchical framework based on that developed in health research in Canada by Upshur and colleagues that generates a typology of knowledge which is congruent with the main forms of inquiry that are relevant to mental health social work practice. The framework recognizes the contribution of randomized controlled trials to the knowledge base but also validates knowledge drawn from qualitative, epidemiological, practitioner and user knowledge. It is argued that the framework profiles a wider knowledge base than that promoted by conventional evidence-based practice, and also could be a basis for future development of the research agenda in mental health social work." Démence # Santé mentaleMots-clés : Démence Santé mentale Soins Résumé : "Internationally, interest is developing in the challenges of developing evidence-based guidelines for social work practice. The paper reports on the process of establishing the UK’s first joint health and social care evidence-based practice guideline, which is in dementia care. The paper addresses the methodological and procedural challenges of reviewing, meta-analysing and synthesizing knowledge for health and social care given the contrasting histories of the two sectors in relation to the emergence of evidence-based practice. Dementia care is a complex domain within which social and clinical perspectives intersect, reinforcing the desirability of producing ‘joined up’ health and social care practice guidelines that are relevant to integrated services. It is suggested that the exemplar of producing a joint health and social care guideline for dementia may be a model for future development of practice guidelines. Some of the main recommendations are presented to illustrate the character of the joint guideline, lessons are drawn for future guideline development, and implications for policy and practice implementation are considered." Crimes sexuels # Suicide # VictimesRésumé : "In the Western world, men are particularly vulnerable to suicide, so it is important to undertake research that helps explain the manifestation of suicidality. This is one of the few studies to date that have researched men who were sexually abused in childhood and their presentation of suicidal ideation, much of the previous research with this focus having been restricted to women. The study draws on a clinical sample of 147 Australian men who were sexually abused in childhood, of whom thirty-nine also gave open-ended interviews, and comparisons are made with a community sample of 1,231 men. It was found that the sexually abused men were up to ten times more likely to report suicidal ideation than the controls. To understand risk factors for suicidal ideation, a predictive regression model was constructed, the most important variables in this model being self-blame, isolation and physical injuries sustained from the abuse. These variables are further explored and illuminated from the qualitative data. Key implications of the study for social work practice include the need for screening and assessment of men in clinical populations as well as in other vulnerable populations. Limitations of the study and future areas of inquiry are also outlined." Permalink : http://cdocs.helha.be/pmblln/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=14322
