Travail socialRésumé : "The paper explores social work and work by using a theoretical optic neglected within the profession's academic literature?the Italian Marxist autonomist tradition. Key conceptual categories associated with the autonomists are discussed including the social factory, precariousness, the refusal of work and immaterial labour. It is maintained that a critical engagement with these interrelated concepts may help us think more deeply and politically about three dimensions: the changing content of the work; practitioners' focus, to differing degrees dependent on the national setting, on the work ?readiness? of clients; the ideologically pervasive work ethic within, what is termed, a ?work society?." Enfants # Familles # Travail socialRésumé : "In England the New Labour administration is seeking to embed a ‘transformational reform agenda’ within children’s service. Social workers, among others appear, however, to be wary of the agenda which is now rhetorically rooted in the Every Child Matters: Change for Children programme (CfC). The main social work practice elements of this programme are associated with the introduction of a Children’s Index, a multidisciplinary Common Assessment Framework and the role of Lead Professional. In terms of the promotion of this programme, the government has maintained that the focal aim is to create a ‘modern’ children’s workforce. However, the entire ‘transformational agenda’ can be interpreted as reflecting New Labour’s neoliberal modernity. This is particularly apparent in the terms of the ideas associated with ‘flexibility’ which are so central to the CfC programme." Libéralisme économique # SociologieRésumé : "My earlier contribution to this debate (Garrett, 2009) has prompted one of the authors of the original paper on Habermas (Hayes and Houston, 2007) to hold me responsible for an array of analytical ‘shortcomings’ (Houston, 2009). In the limited space now afforded, the aim will be to respond by concentrating on the core features of Stan Houston's article."
