Pauvreté # Travailleurs sociauxMots-clés : Travailleur social Pauvreté Résumé : "This study examines the differences in perceptions of the causes of poverty of social workers and other middle-class professionals in Israel. A large-scale sample of 647 participants, of whom 482 were social workers and 165 middle-class professionals, was employed. Initially, the attitudes of the 482 social workers were analysed. The findings indicated that social workers preferred structural over psychological or individualistic explanations. However, a comparison between a matched subset of 165 social workers and the other middle-class professionals revealed that the social workers were not unique in their preference for structural explanations. The difference between the two groups was rather in the tendency among social workers to attribute greater importance to psychological causes." Justice sociale # Science politiqueRésumé : "To promote social justice, social workers are required, among other things, to engage in policy practice. The project at the center of this article aimed to improve the ability of social workers to use the mass media as an accessible method of policy practice. The project was conducted as part of an MSW course in Tel Aviv University. During the course, most of its participants succeeded in publishing op-ed articles on a variety of social topics, in the national or local press, in professional periodicals, and on radio and television. A retrospective evaluation of the project indicated an increase in participant’s feeling of personal and professional empowerment, as well in their sense of being capable of promoting social issues through the media following the project. Participants also reported that the project facilitated the identification, appreciation and expression of their unique professional voice. Drawing on this experience, a number of general principles are put forward for implementation in similar projects." Politique socialeMots-clés : Politique sociale Pratique sociale Travail social Formation Résumé : "Though social justice is a central goal of the social work profession, the actual involvement of social workers in social change is very limited. Moreover, training in social policy and policy practice in schools of social work is minimal. As such, practitioners lack the tools needed to analyse existing social problems and policies and to enable them to intervene in the policy process in order to better serve the needs of service users. This article seeks to further social policy teaching within social work education by engaging in a survey of the existing literature on the subject and by offering a detailed programme for integrating this subject into the social work training system. The literature survey that serves as a basis for this programme includes a review of studies on the dilemmas linked to social policy teaching, on the goals and content of social policy courses in social work and on preferred teaching methods in this field."
