Enfants:Enfants -- Protection, assistance, etc.Résumé : "This paper investigates the reasoning processes of social workers in child protection social work as they make decisions. Within this interpretive process, they assign meaning to clients' behaviours in a context containing a multitude of competing discourses relating to the nature and cause of clients' problems. The study used a qualitative approach, specifically a critical incident framework. It asked workers to describe cases they felt ‘pleased with’ and explain the reasoning processes they used in those cases. It also asked clients their views of decisions made about them." Aide sociale:Aide sociale -- BénéficiairesRésumé : "Ethics in social work research increasingly recognises that the rights and interests of subjects must be primary. The principal aim is to ensure that the subjects of research are protected from harm that might result from their participation in the research. In this article, research ethics are examined in the context of refugees and other vulnerable groups. It is argued that the ancient idea of seeking to ‘do no harm’ that continues to be a key principle in the refugee field, while necessary, is insufficient to ensure ethically sound research practice." This article uses an alternative methodology: by reviewing British studies by the authors and others in which risk-assessed offenders have received similar disposals, it shows that in almost all cases the minority ethnic offenders have been assessed as presenting, on average, a lower score than white British offenders on various risk–need instruments. In most studies, this difference is significant." Permalink : http://cdocs.helha.be/pmblln/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=16708

Based on an analysis of the data-recording system of victim–offender mediation for adult offenders in Flanders (Belgium), the article shows that recognising the social dimension of social work demands that social work approaches data recording not only as a way to show the activity of the social workers, but also as an instrument to reflect critically on how social work intervenes in—and therefore defines—social problems."
