Adoption # Contrôle socialMots-clés : Placement Adoption Enfant Adolescent Contrôle social Résumé : "Remand foster-carers can provide placements for children and young people awaiting trial or sentence within criminal courts. The role of fostering children and young people on remand is in some ways more complex than fostering other children, as remand foster-carers have to bridge the divide between providing the care of the welfare system and the control of the criminal justice system. This paper considers the ways in which a small sample of remand foster-carers attempted to manage these tensions and incongruities and tried to reach a balance between care and control. The paper identifies two main ‘parenting’ approaches adopted by remand foster-carers, and comments on the appropriateness of each to meet the needs of children and young people on remand, whilst still achieving the requirements of the criminal justice system." Délinquance juvénile # PrisonsMots-clés : Placement Adolescent Délinquance juvénile Prison Violence Résumé : "The purpose of this study was to draw a picture of the violence and abuse experienced by youngsters in juvenile correctional facilities in Israel. Residents of three types of correctional facilities (closed, diagnostic and hostels) for girls and boys indicated whether or not they had personal experiences of eight types of victimization by peers and four types of victimization by staff. The findings showed that all the investigated types of violence and abuse were present in all three types of correctional facilities, though ‘low-level’ acts of violence were more prevalent than ‘severe’ violence. At the same time, the findings also pointed to a different picture of violence and abuse in each type of facility and for each gender. The findings highlighted the problem of violence and abuse by peers and staff in correctional facilities for juveniles. At the same time, the differential pictures obtained suggested that intervention programmes must have both a general component and a component tailored to the facilities in which they are carried out." Santé mentaleMots-clés : Santé mentale Analyse Résumé : "In relation to mental health, it is clear that medicalized underpinnings, the provision of a clinically orientated evidence base for practice and the need to contain ‘risk’ continue to be prioritized, particularly when compulsory intervention is considered. This is despite the increasing influence of a citizenship and social justice agenda which is being promoted by psychiatrists involved in the development of ‘postpsychiatry’, as well as by service users/survivors. These drivers are not mutually exclusive, but in the context of compulsory treatment, there are clear tensions. In this article, the policy surrounding mental health and compulsory intervention in Australia and in England and Wales is explored. In the context of this discussion, three ways in which current government policy can be interpreted are examined and links made between these interpretations and different ways of viewing the relationship between mental health and community capacity building. With regard to social work practice, it is argued that a response to mental ill health which concentrates on an individualized ‘diagnose and treat’ approach, which particularly comes to the fore at times of compulsory intervention, has limited capacity to facilitate community engagement, foster social inclusion and generate reciprocal dynamics between positive mental health and community capacity building." VieillissementMots-clés : Evaluation Personne âgée Vieillissement Résumé : "Recent government policies have been active in addressing social inclusion and active participation of older people in many aspects of societal life. Independence and well-being animate these developments and are evident in the emphasis on person-centred services within the single assessment process for older people (Department of Health, 2002b). Drawing on a feasibility study of the Single Assessment Process as a ‘case-finding’ approach, this paper presents findings drawn from older people’s accounts of this experience. These accounts indicate the potential of the process for identifying ‘low-level’ need, whilst raising issues of access to formal services and resource constraint; also they underline the importance of understanding how older people seek ways of managing their own health and well-being, whilst continuing to contribute to the social cohesion of society by providing support to their peers and to younger generations. Interdependence, it is suggested, rather than dependence should underlie any approach to assessing older people’s needs, if we are to appreciate and build upon the complexity of older people’s strategies for actively managing their lives." Evaluation # Pratique professionnelle # Pratique sociale # Travail socialMots-clés : Evaluation Pratique sociale Pratique professionnelle Travail social Résumé : "Increasing widespread requirements that assessment practice conforms to generic guidelines contained in assessment frameworks has been contentious and critiques offered on individual frameworks have been assumed to apply to the concept of assessment frameworks more generally. After comparing four assessment frameworks currently being used in the UK, this paper argues that although some generalizations can be made, for the most part, they are highly individual documents in terms of range and depth of content, the extent to which they are evidenced and the quality of that evidence and implicit expectations as to the skill bases of assessors. Furthermore, the introduction of assessment frameworks is not in itself a panacea to ensure good practice. Even with the most comprehensive frameworks, social workers will still need comprehensive training in assessment and supervision of their practice." Travailleurs sociaux:Travailleurs sociaux -- SupervisionMots-clés : Supervision Relation Résumé : "This study deals with the neglected subject of the feelings and concerns of field supervisors at the termination of the supervisory relationship. Analysis of the written responses of 55 field supervisors to three open ended questions reveals a mixture of co-existent feelings: satisfaction, fulfillment and pride, along with relief, sadness, and/or frustration. It shows that the supervisors’ most prevalent concern was with whether they were good supervisors, and that only half of them related to professional issues involved in the termination. About half reported being left with feelings of gratification; others wrote of being left with the sense that they had not accomplished what they would have liked to. Beyond the specific findings, the study’s main contribution is the light it sheds on supervisors’ perspectives on the experience of field supervision as a whole. Recommendations for practice and research are made." Permalink : http://cdocs.helha.be/pmblln/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=12826
