Résumé : |
"Recent reports in the UK on the state of social work practice with children have concluded that the child is often absent from assessment processes. Local and national governments have been working to address this absence through the implementation of standardised frameworks and assessment tools and more profoundly through the reformation of social work. Nonetheless, and certainly in high-risk cases, social workers will continue to work in conditions where ?seeing? is a complex matter. Children will continue to be hidden, held in the distance, situated in the background?and, in the deaths I draw upon in this research, masked behind front doors, food and clothing. In this paper, I argue that our knowledge of the body in practice must incorporate such realities. I suggest that, in order for social workers to ?see? the child, they must adopt a more gradated understanding of the body. I apply inter-disciplinary literature on movement and dance choreography, demonstrating that such literature can help us to understand the child's body in a more situated and direct way." |
