Résumé : |
In Australia, the midwifery workforce is ageing and predominantly part-time. Hence there is considerable interest in the induction and retention of new midwives in the profession. This study led by Dr Mary Carolan, was undertaken to explore 3rd year students’ views of the ‘good midwife’. I am sure it will be interesting to compare this Australian survey with your own expectations from a competent midwife in a French context. No doubt similarities will occur but also huge differences due to an overwhelmingly obstetric-led model in Australia, quite reminiscent of the US situation. Training is also much shorter in Australia: 3 years vs 5 in France. |
